The Australian and New Zealand Association for Computer Graphics is a new association for the computer graphics community in our region. It was inspired by an overwhelmingly successful visit to Australia, New Zealand and Singapore during March and April 2002 by an ACM SIGGRAPH delegation and the amazingly enthusiastic response they received. The delegation included the President and Vice President of ACM SIGGRAPH, along with other key individuals representing ACM and EUROGRAPHICS. ANZGRAPH aims to provide a forum for individuals, organizations and companies that have some direct interest in the area of computer graphics. So whether you are:

• an academic or researcher teaching graphics or pursuing fundamental or applied research;
• a student taking courses in graphics, interaction, or computer animation;
• an engineer or technologist developing innovative graphics technologies in software or hardware;
• or a computer graphics user utilizing graphics and interaction in your normal working life;

— then ANZGRAPH will have something to offer you. Our goal is to foster the development of a computer graphics community in the Australasian region, provide a pathway to that community within our region, and facilitate your participation as a member of ANZGRAPH both regionally and internationally. One of our principal mechanisms for achieving this goal is the new GRAPHITE conference series. SEAGRAPH, ANZGRAPH's sister association for South East Asia, is also being established as a result of the ACM SIGGRAPH delegation's visit to Singapore. While these two associations will be formally independent from each other, the intent of those involved in founding them is for a substantial degree of cross-association cooperation and support.
